DAY 1

We will meet you at your hotel or guest house at 6:00am and then depart Johannesburg and travel east to Dullstroom and Lydenburg.

After a refreshment break in Ohrigstad we then a drive along part of the panoramic route along the escarpment of the Drakensberg mountains, stopping the Blyde River Canyon to experience the breath-taking view. This magnificent canyon is the third largest canyon in the world. Continue down the spectacular Abel Erasmus Pass into the Lowveld, it is now only a forty minute drive to the Lodge, situated in a "Big Five” reserve which is part of Greater Kruger Park. After enjoying welcome “non-alcoholic” drink on arrival, time to settle into your room then enjoy a light lunch looking out over the reserve and a waterhole.

Late afternoon is "safari time" Meet your ranger and board an open game tracking vehicle to explore the African Bush looking for some of the many species that make this area home. The ranger will point out and explain the many animals found, and hopefully you will be lucky enough to see the elusive cats. Just before sunset the ranger will stop and sundowner drinks accompanied with tasty snacks are enjoyed in the bush. The drive back to the lodge will be a night drive using spot lights to look for the elusive nocturnal animals. Once back at the lodge meet fellow guests at the bar area and dinner is served in a traditional "boma".

DAY 2

A very early morning wake-up call, meet for a welcome mug of coffee and biscuits with your ranger before departing on the early morning game drive. Return to the lodge for hearty breakfast, after breakfast there is time to go on an optional game walk with your ranger or freshen up then enjoy the lodge surroundings. Escape the midday heat by spending time in or around the swimming pool, relaxing in a hammock, being pampered in the "sala" with a massage or enjoy a siesta. A light lunch is enjoyed under a tree looking out over the bush and a waterhole.

Afternoon high tea is a time to interact with other guests and is served at around 3:30pm with a selection salty and sweet treats. Following directly thereafter you are off to an afternoon & evening game drive adventure with a stop-over in the bush for sundowners watching the splendour of the African sun setting over the mountains. Drinks are accompanied by snacks and some South African specialties. After the sun set stop the drive is continued with the aid of spot lights looking for any animals not yet spotted. Return to the lodge, freshen up and meet for a pre-dinner drink and then have dinner around a fire in a traditional "boma" or in the lodge dining room.

DAY 3

DAY 4

Start the day with another game drive accompanied by a ranger for one last opertuinity to spot any animals not yet seen. Return to the game lodge for a healthy breakfast. After breakfast, check out and the ranger will drive you to the reserve gate. Meet the Ashtons shuttle bus at 11:00am and they will then meet other guests at in Hoedspruit before the return journey to Johannesburg, arriving at OR Tambo Airport around 6:00pm. In time for a return flight or a flight to Cape Town.

The itinerary may be changed to accommodate weather and time constraints.

Clients will be collected from their hotel, guest house or home in the Johannesburg or Pretoria area, traveling in luxury air-conditioned Microbuses or sedan with registered driver guides.

  1. An option is to fly back to Johannesburg from Hoedspruit instead of returning by the same road. The 75 minute flight from Hoedspruit arrives in Johannesburg early enough to get a connecting flight to Cape Town or to meet any of the evening international flights. (For 2 guests travelling together this will also work out more cost effective.)
  2. To make this 4 day safari more cost effective (ZAR9 456.00 per person sharing) you can use the scheduled minibus transfer from Johannesburg to the lodge and back to Johannesburg. You will then miss out on visiting the Blyde River Canyon on day 1.
  3. During the summer, October to April which is the rainy season, you must be aware of the Malaria risk in the Kruger Park area, please consult with a doctor about taking Malaria prophylactics

What should I wear?

You will require comfortable, casual and semi-casual clothes for your safari to South Africa, nothing fancy. Please note that bright colours are not suitable for game-viewing and that game-drives are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon which can be cold, especially in winter.

  • For winter (May - August) pack an extra warm jacket, woolen hat or beanie, scarf & gloves
