Private lodge experience in Pilanesberg!

Pilanesberg Private Lodge enjoys traversing across the entire park (57 000 hectares) in open game vehicles but they will concentrate on the 2000ha of private concession area and the Wilderness area of the Pilanesberg to keep out of the general public area of Pilanesberg, thus offering a true safari drive experience. The reserve is home to the BIG 5 (Lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, white and black rhino) as well as wild dog. Antelope species include sable, tsessebe, eland, gemsbok and springbok.

Game viewing in this private concession is ideal as there are no public vehicles.

The Pilanesberg Private Lodge is a new private retreat nestled on the foot of the majestic Pilanesberg Mountains situated in the Black Rhino Reserve in the North Western corner of the Pilanesberg National Park and only a comfortable 2 hour 30 minute drive from Johannesburg / Pretoria, in a MALARIA FREE area.

Private Lodge in Big 5 Country

This lodge is uniquely positioned in a part of the Pilanesberg National Park wilderness area that has previously not been accessible to any visitors. It has 5 luxury units that are connected via paved pathways and bridges to the communal area. Each suite has air-conditioning, hot beverage facility, and private patio that opens out into the bush. The bathroom has a bath, shower his & hers basins and opens out onto a totally secluded outdoor shower.

The lodge was designed to incorporate the views to ensure that even when you are not on game drives, you stand the chance to see any of the animals from the lodge they come to the waterhole. Our guests enjoy nothing but spectacular views of world Famous "Pilanesberg Alkaline Ring Complex".

Dinner is normally served in the “boma” around the fire to end your day off in typical African style. You can enjoy fabulous stargazing from the boma as the night sky in this area is very clean and clear, you will be amazed at the amount of stars you can see.

View the Big 5 on Foot

In this area you do have the privilege to see the Buffalo on regular occasions as they have taken shelter in the more remote areas that is not accessible to any other visitors to the park.

From Pilanesberg Private Lodge experience a thrilling wildlife experience on foot. The rangers conduct Walking Safaris instead of the usual game drive, the group is limited to 8 guests and this is an amazing way to get close to nature, see the small but very important species. See, feel, smell and touch the grasses, ground and trees. Utilize your senses to create an unforgettable encounter with nature. There is a small cost involved.

With a species list of over 354, the reserve is a true "birders paradise".

Children are welcome at Pilanesberg Private Lodge, but under 5 years old may not be allowed on the game drives due to safety reasons.

Be Spoiled with Personal Attention

The big advantage is Pilanesberg Private Lodge is in a private concession which is now part of the Pilanesberg. They have 5 very comfortable chalets so you get personal attention and the meals are more like home cooking, not bulk hotel cooking. Being in a concession they have about 8000ha (19 700 acres) of Pilanesberg to drive around on which is closed to the public so you do get a much better safari experience in a smaller (9 seater) 4x4 and no public vehicles are allowed in this concession, they can also stay out longer at night if the sightings are good, and they can stop for sun downer drinks. If need be they can go into the public section of Pilanesberg. Being a small private lodge the better service and special attention the daily rate is more here but worth it!

The lodges in the “public area” of Pilanesberg are also very nice but that are more of a “Hotel” in the bush with 50+ rooms so you lose the personal attention. The game drives are conducted in 20 seater trucks so not as personal and are in the public section of the park so the rangers are restricted to the park roads. You will see lots of private cars driving around as well – especially at good game sightings. If you are interested in visiting Sun City then Bakubung is ideal as it is only a 10 minute drive away and the lodge does offer a shuttle service.
